Why in News

After 11- year gap,Centre discloses key consumption expenditure survey data

 Aim: Generating estimates of household Monthly Per Capita Consumption Expenditure (MPCE). 

Data will play a key role in reviewing critical economic indicators, including the GDP,Poverty levels 

and the Consumer Price Infl ation.

 Conducted by:National Statistical offi ce.

 Duration: At every Five years.

 Key Findings:

 The survey indicates a substantial increase in average monthly per capita consumption 

expenditure (MPCE) since 2011-12.

 Urban households witnessing a 33.5% rise and 

 Rural households experienced a 40.42% increase.

 There has been a decrease in the proportion of spending on food in both rural and urban 

households compared to 2011-12. MPCE varies across states, with Sikkim having the highest MPCE and Chhattisgarh having

the lowest.

WORLD LARGEST AGRI STORAGE PLAN

Why in News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched the world’s largest grain storage plan in the

cooperative sector with the inauguration of 11 godowns in primary agricultural credit societies

(PACS) in 11 states.

 PACS are grassroots-

level institutions and their

membership encompasses

individual farmers, artisans,

and members of other weaker

sections of the society as

shareholders.

 PACSs provide short-term, and

medium-term agricultural

loans to the farmers for the

various agricultural and farming

activities.

 The fi rst PACS was formed in

1904.

 They form the lowest tier of the

federated short-term cooperative credit structure with District Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) and/or

State Cooperative Banks (StCBs) in their upper tiers.

 PACS are outside the purview of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 and hence not regulated

by the Reserve Bank of India.

 StCBs/DCCBs are registered under the provisions of State Cooperative Societies Act of the State

concerned and are regulated by the Reserve Bank.

SUDARSHAN SETU

 It is India’s longest cable-stayed bridge around 2.32 km, connecting Okha mainland and Beyt

Dwarka.
