LAW COMMISSION OF INDIA
The Union Cabinet chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved the extension of
the term of the Twenty-second Law Commission of India upto 31st August, 2024.
Law Commission of India is a non-statutory body and is constituted by a notifi cation of the
Government of India, Ministry of Law & Justice, Department of Legal Aff airs.
The Law Commission has taken up various subjects on references made by Department of Legal
Aff airs, Supreme Court and High Courts and submitted 277 reports. The Law Commission of India
provides excellent thought provoking and vital review of the laws in India.
The Commission was originally constituted in 1955 and is re-constituted from time to time.
Composition
A full-time Chairperson;
Four full-time Members (including Member-Secretary)
Secretary, Department of Legal Aff airs as ex-offi cio Member;
Secretary, Legislative Department as ex offi cio Member; and
Not more than fi ve part-time Members
