Darj Zoo (Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park) declared the zoo with the ‘highest
captive snow leopard population in the world’ .
Snow Leopards are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, with an
estimated population of between 4000 and 7500 individuals remaining in the wild.
“The Snow Leopard Breeding Programme at the PNHZP is the only breeding programme of the
species in Southeast Asia.
In 2007, the Park was designated as the coordinating zoo for the conservation breeding of snow
leopards by the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi.
Snow leopards are mainly found in Central and South Asia.
