 The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Office and Terms of Office) Bill, 2023

What the Constitution says about Election Commission of India?
🔴 Article 324: Provides for the composition of Election Commission of India - consisting of Chief Election Commissioner and two other Election Commissioners.
🔴 Further lays down that CEC and EC shall be appointed by President subject to the provisions of any law made in this behalf by the Parliament.
🔴 Till now, no such law has been passed parliament in this regard.

What the new Bill lays down?
🔴 CEC and other ECs to be appointed from the persons who are holding or have a held a post equivalent to the rank of Secretary to the Government of India
🔴 Selection Committee to consist of Prime Minister, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and a Union Cabinet Minister to be nominated by the P.M.
