Arunachal Pradesh’s Pakke Paga Hornbill Festival
The festival focuses on wildlife conservation, particularly hornbills.
Four species of hornbills, including the endangered Rufous-necked hornbill, are found in the
Pakke Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Nyishi, the largest tribal group in Arunachal Pradesh, play a signifi cant role in hornbill
conservation.
Biopesticide
Scientists have found a natural remedy to protect eucalyptus forest plantations from a pest,
eucalyptus snout beetle-The pest is indigenous to Australia.
It is a biopesticide for controlling beetle populations.
Fungi is developed by treating insecticidal activity, UV-B radiation tolerance among other parameters
to ensure that recovered fungi are suitable to produce bio-insecticide and mass production and
commercialisation.
